First Class iMOVIE Program

In the first class we were introduced to the program "iMovie" in which Barb showed us how to design our own movie trailers. iMovie allows you to choose the genre of movie trailers you want to design and explains very clearly how to film each scene. You can then view and make any modifications you feel are necessary. Here is a link to the movie that I made with Greg Millman the first night.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjh1eM9U864

Neither of us had used the program before and we very quickly learned how to design a movie trailer. The program is user friendly and we both had a lot of fun putting it together while developing a skill that we can use to teach students.

If one thing is true of any of our young learners the film industry is huge, kids know what movies are coming and popular movies become a hot topic of social interaction. For students to see themselves in an actual movie trailer that their teacher or especially they themselves have designed is fun and gives them a feeling of accomplishment. I have seen the iMovie program used as a means of show casing the accomplishments of students doing a "Music Boot Camp" this summer. Footage was taken during the week and then a great trailer with fast paced music was designed for the kids to view at the end of the week, they all got a copy and they all loved it.

This program could be used with students of any age or learning ability. Resource Teachers are always developing Social Stories for the students we work with. This program allows people to develop social stories that are engaging and can be designed specifically for an individual student.  Some great websites that demonstrates uses of the iMovie program with students are: http://edweb.sdsu.edu/sciencetg/ie/

  1. You are right Isaac! Movies and media are big with kids, however I enjoyed this app too!

A few weeks after we learned how to use this app I was invited to the Learning Centre to watch a movie some of our students created. I was so excited to see them using the app and having a wonderful time learning!!

I wish I had the opportunity to use these tools when I was going through school...oh right I am using these tools now, while I am at school! Guess it is fun and usefull when you are old too!
